Hypnosis for Sports Performance Certification Course

I’ve been asked about running a hypnosis for sports training programme for a number of years now and have long had plans to run one. I wanted it to be something that was not just thrown together and so I have taken a lot of time in putting this together in order to deliver a very high quality training course for all those who attend. At the moment, this is a one-off training course that I have worked into the college’s 2020 schedule and we have no plans to run it again currently.

Hypnosis for advancing sporting performance is a majorly fast growing market for qualified hypnotherapists.

More people than ever are running (have you seen how many people attend Parkruns each week?!), swimming, cycling, lifting weights or engaged in team sports of varying kinds. Every boxer, golfer, ballerina, runner and cyclist is a potential client for the hypnotherapist with specialist sports skills and knowledge. Thousands of adults and children are involved in recreational and professional sports, and so many of them are looking to advance their performance by enhancing their mental game.

In this certification course, I’ll be sharing the protocols used at Bournemouth University to advance muscular strength, I’ll be sharing the fruits of my own explorations of the evidence base and literature supporting the ways hypnosis can be used for sports performance enhancement and I’ll also be sharing nearly 25 years of experience as an athlete, and Hypnotherapist who has worked with many amateur and professional athletes (including world record holders and those competing at international level) and I share a number of stand-out case studies and explain the work I did within them.

This is a two-day (weekend) specialist training course offering you a robust understanding of the foundations of sports psychology (cognitive sports psychology in particular as it complements self-hypnosis so well), as well as the techniques and strategies used in the fields of sports psychology and sports hypnosis to help athletes of all levels achieve their best.

Your Tutor:

I’ve been an active sportsman all of my life and played football to a high standard during my school and University days. Today I lift weights to a fairly high level. I have run some fast and some slow marathons and ultramarathons around the world in my time, and undertaken some major endurance running challenges. I used a lot of hypnosis before and during these events when battling adverse conditions, training challenges, injury and illness. I have been a UK Athletics qualified running coach (though am no longer registered).

I have had high profile sporting clients and am colleagues and friends with ex-Olympians, well-known coaches and sports people. I appeared on BBC1’s ‘Run for Glory’ TV show working alongside former Olympians Steve Cramm and Sally Gunnell helping participants overcome mental challenges to run London marathon. To date, a former world champion runner, a former multi-world champion athlete, a multi world record holder as well as many, many mere mortals ranging from highly competitive athletes to beginners and journeymen have worked with me, and many continue to work with me.

I have a love of sport and an equal love of how psychology and hypnosis can advance sporting performance.

When you qualify in this area and start to work with clients to advance sporting performance, you get to work with a different type of client Clients looking to advance performance can make a refreshing change when you spend a lot of time working with therapeutic clients who have challenging issues. Certainly over the years I have found working with those looking to advance sporting performance to be very uplifting and enjoyable.
