A couple of key points that I make in this brief clip…

1. Memory is complex and reconstructive. When retrieving memories for regressive purposes using hypnosis, more material tends to come up and present itself in awareness.
2. When things come up during hypnosis, people tend to find them more believable.
3. Hypnosis does not guarantee veracity, and that which does come up could be incorrect or out of perspective in some way, but if more is coming up and it is more believable, we potentially increase the chances of fall memory (the biggest litigation cases in psychiatric history were related to male memory issues).
4. If we are going to use regression approaches, we need to ensure the client understands that what comes up is their perception and not necessarily absolute truth.

We need to understand and be aware of how hypnosis affects our memories and the potential for false recall. Understanding perceptions versus actual events is crucial for safe, ethical hypnotherapy.
