I spend a lot of my time working with people to help them be more positive in a wide number of ways. We all tend to benefit from healthy levels of positivity, of course we do. However…..
One thing I have struggled to come to terms with over the years, is that as a trainer, author and therapist, whose main purpose in those roles has been to help others feel happier or get better, is that many people expect you to be “Mr Whoopee-doo” all the time. They expect that I jump out of bed every morning and burst into a rendition of zip-a-dee-doo-dah regardless of what may be happening in my life.
In this video I talk on the topic of toxic positivity and how it can actually be bad for your mental health to attempt to be overly positive too much of the time.
